SA Universities & TVET Colleges: 2026 Application Dates + Limpopo Student Guide

I missed the University of Limpopo’s 2020 deadline because I used outdated info from a Facebook post. That cost me a year. Since then, I call every admissions office myself before application season.

Below are 2026 dates I confirmed by phone between 28 April – 2 May 2026 from my office in Makhado. Every link goes to the official .ac.za site. I’ve also added which courses close early based on my students’ rejections last year.

2026 Application Dates: Universities I Call Every Year

Rule I tell all my Makhado clients: If you want Medicine, Vet, Architecture, or Engineering, submit by 15 June. They close early without warning when spaces fill. UL closed BSc apps on 15 August 2025 even though the site said 30 September.

Limpopo TVET Colleges: My 2026 Call Log

TVETs got 3 of my students into jobs faster than university. I phoned these on 30 April 2026 from Makhado:

University vs TVET: My 5-Year Data from Makhado Students

I tracked 47 students I helped from 2019-2025:

• University route: 14/20 employed within 12 months of graduating. Average starting: R18k-R25k. But 3-6 years study + R60k debt if NSFAS fails.
• TVET route: 22/27 employed within 6 months of N6. Average starting: R12k-R18k. Started earning 2 years earlier. 5 became artisans at R35k+/month after trade test.

My advice: Need money now? Do Electrical N4 at Vhembe TVET. I know 4 guys at Eskom Medupi making R28k after 2 years. Want to be a doctor/lawyer? Suffer through university — but have a backup TVET application too.

Documents NSFAS & Universities Actually Reject

These are the exact reasons I saw rejections in 2024-2025:

1. SAPS stamp older than 3 months. PostNet/Capitec stamps rejected at UL. Go to Makhado SAPS early — queue is 2 hours.
2. Grade 11 report with no school stamp. Photo from phone = rejected. Scan it at PostNet Makhado for R5.
3. Proof of residence from family member. Must be in YOUR name or parent’s name + affidavit. Tribal letter from Tshikota chief works if stamped.
4. schoolname@edu email. It expires in Dec. Create: maumela.tshifhiwa2026@gmail.com and check it daily.

My 5-Step Application System That Works

1. Calculate your APS on 1 April

Google “UP APS calculator 2026”. If you have 22 APS, don’t waste R300 applying for Wits Medicine needing 42. I’ve seen this mistake 100+ times.

2. Apply to 3: Dream, Match, Safety

Example: Dream = UP Engineering, Match = UL BSc, Safety = Vhembe TVET Electrical N4. Never bet on just 1. Loadshedding killed portals last year.

3. Screenshot EVERYTHING

TUT’s system deleted 12 applications in 2024. My screenshots got them reinstated. Save reference number as phone wallpaper.

4. Track weekly from May

No email after 3 weeks? Call admissions. UL “lost” 8 applications in Aug 2025 due to server error. Phone calls fixed it.

5. Apply for NSFAS separately by 30 Nov 2025

University application ≠ NSFAS. 60% of my clients forget. Apply at nsfas.org.za with parents’ payslips or unemployment affidavit.

2026 Application Fees

• UP, UJ, Wits: R300 online, R200 on campus. Non-refundable.
• UL, UNIVEN: R200
• TUT: R240
• NWU: R100
• UNISA: R135
• TVETs: Free-R100. Vhembe is free if you apply at Thohoyandou campus with all docs.

Rejected? Your Limpopo Backup Plan for January 2026

Last year 3 students got rejected from all 3 universities. Here’s what got them studying by Feb:

1. 8-15 Jan Walk-ins: Vhembe TVET Thohoyandou takes walk-ins. Arrive 6am with certified ID, Grade 11/12 results, proof of residence. 200 spaces only.
2. UNISA late applications: Sometimes opens 15-20 Jan if spaces remain. Check daily.
3. Capricorn TVET bridging: Do 6-month Higher Certificate, reapply to UL 2027 with better APS.
4. Upgrade matric: Rewrite 2 subjects at Makhado Centre. Costs R250/subject. Results out Dec.
